Paolo Fortina

Paolo Fortina graduated in Law from the University of Bologna in 2003. He continued his studies with postgraduate training for the legal professions, completed in 2005, followed by a Ph.D. in Civil and Commercial Law within the ‘Persona e Mercato’ programme at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo in 2011.

His further training includes intellectual property and patents at the University of Pavia (2008), insurance law at the University of Milan (2012), and art law and taxation with Il Sole 24 Ore and MUDEC (2016).

He is a civil lawyer and has been admitted to practise before the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation and other higher courts since 2022. His work focuses on civil and commercial litigation, insurance law, professional liability and contracts. These fields share a practical starting point: understanding the facts before debating the law.

He served as an honorary magistrate in the Tenth Civil Division of the Court of Milan, dealing with civil liability and damages disputes.

His starting question is simple: what actually happened, and what can we prove? The law, strategy and, where needed, court proceedings come next. A claim that can be brought is not necessarily worth pursuing; a negotiated solution is useful when it protects the client’s interests.

Alongside his practice, he has taught and written about law for many years, more recently including the relationship between law, technology and artificial intelligence. He is the founder and a lecturer of Corso Fortina, a training programme for the Italian bar examination. Selected activities are available in the conference and teaching archive.
